New York, NY – April 10, 2025 – Throughout March, EmblemHealth strengthened its commitment to health equity and local wellness by expanding access to care and support. From preventive health screenings to distributing fresh produce and maternal health resources, EmblemHealth met New Yorkers with real support right in their neighborhood.

EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care held five farmers markets throughout New York City to help address food insecurity. Nearly 700 vouchers for free produce and protein bags — including chicken, fresh vegetables, and plant-based foods — were distributed. Select farmers markets also featured live cooking demonstrations and nutrition education to encourage families to prepare healthy meals at home.

As part of its ongoing Community Diabetes Wellness Program, EmblemHealth hosted two free diabetes screening events at its Neighborhood Care locations in the Bronx. The program offers no-cost A1C screenings, diabetes prevention and management workshops, and wellness classes tailored to those living with prediabetes or diabetes.

The EmblemHealth Community Engagement team sponsored maternal health events where participants were connected with local prenatal and perinatal wellness resources. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Community Engagement team also supported various women-focused events throughout New York City including women’s history celebrations, empowerment luncheons, and awards ceremonies.

Finally, EmblemHealth’s Government and Policy Affairs team held a panel on keeping a healthy mind and body, and offered insights on maternal health, perimenopause, and menopause. Opening remarks were made by Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas (New York State Assembly District 34, Queens), chair of the Task Force on Women's Issues. Michelle Rakebrand, AVP of Government Affairs, led the discussion with expert panelists from AdvantageCare Physicians, EmblemHealth, and the New York City Department of Health.

“I'm thrilled to partner with EmblemHealth on this important conversation on women's health at all stages of life,” said Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas. “I don’t think we talk enough about the needs of women in perimenopause or menopause, so this is so important.”

EmblemHealth is committed to improving health outcomes by connecting New Yorkers with the care and resources they need — right in their neighborhood.
