New York, NY  In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, EmblemHealth, one of the largest nonprofit health insurers in the United States, hosted an educational webinar on the urgent issues of loneliness and social isolation, particularly among older adults. The discussion delved into strategies for promoting mental well-being, supporting family members, offering practical advice, sharing community resources, and allowing time for audience queries.

New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and New York City Council Member Crystal Hudson, also the Chair of the Committee on Aging, provided the opening remarks for the discussion. Terri Rhymes-Lowery, Regional Manager at Neighborhood Care, moderated the event, which featured expert panelists Kathleen Morse, a licensed clinical social worker at ACPNY, and Ashley Giblin, the lead health coach at WellSpark Health, who shared their insights and experiences with the audience.

“Thank you to EmblemHealth for hosting today’s webinar on loneliness and social isolation, including its impact on older adults. Seniors are the jewels of our communities, and we would not be here today without their sacrifices and contributions. That’s why we must support their physical and mental health so that they can age with dignity.,’ said Council Speaker Adrienne Adams. “Loneliness and isolation impact people of all ages and backgrounds. As we continue to observe Mental Health Awareness Month this May, it remains vital for all of us to work together to address the loneliness and social isolation that impacts our mental health.”

“I commend EmblemHealth for hosting this very important webinar on the social isolation and loneliness that so many of our older adults, our beloved and cherished older community members, face. Especially coming out of the pandemic,” said Council Member Crystal Hudson.
